Recovery

It has been a long time folks.... life has really taken over the last 6 months. I have raced, of course! I have had some good results too... BUT I have spent the whole year with an injury; a sports-mans hernia.
So here I am, holed up for 2 weeks rest having had my operation on Tuesday. Pretty simple stuff. Four key holes in my stomach, the surgeon goes in and adds 'web' to both sides to toughen it up. It all heals and I feel like new... I hope.
Of course, feet up in bed when you are normally running or working gives one time to reflect. Despite this problem I have had a good year. Idid the 80k Ecotrail in Paris, I PB'd Paris Marathon with a 2:55, I had several top 10's in trail marathons, I got 2nd place in the Adidas 24hr Thunder Run with my partner, Niandi Carmont and then I had a couple of lousy runs. Most notable my last marathon, a week after the Thunder Run in Salisbury when basically my body and more importantly my tummy and hernia said; NO!
I am looking forward to this down time. I am planning for the end of 2009 and looking forward to 2010. Watch this space, it is going to be interesting.... Ian
